How to Use Try a Lens in JT5

Sharpen your newest JT5 answer with one of 31 proven thinking methods.

A lens reworks your newest answer with a proven thinking method, so a good answer gets sharper before you act on it.

Step-by-Step Instructions

Step 1: Ask your question. Use JT5 Boardroom or AutoPilot AI, as you normally would.

Step 2: Click Try a lens. As soon as the newest answer finishes, click Try a lens right under it. It reads "sharpen the consensus" on a boardroom answer and "sharpen this answer" on a one-brain answer.

Under a boardroom answer: print, copy to new chat and copy icons, then the Try a lens · sharpen the consensus button
Under a one-brain answer, the button reads Try a lens · sharpen this answer

Step 3: Pick a lens. Choose one of the 5 shown, click Shuffle for more, or open All and search the 31 thinking methods.

Step 4: Read the sharper answer. On a boardroom answer, a sharpened Team consensus appears below your original. The brains are not asked again. On a one-brain answer, the sharpened answer appears below it the same way.

Which Lens When

  • Critique and Refine (keep what works, fix the gaps): for a draft.

  • Pre-mortem Analysis (assume it failed, work back): for a plan.

  • Stakeholder Round Table (what each affected party says): for decisions that affect people.

  • Red Team vs Blue Team (attack it, then harden it): for a pitch or a deal.

  • Tree of Thoughts (branch the options, pick one): for choosing between options.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why don't I see Try a lens? It only shows under the newest answer, right after it finishes. It won't appear on a chat you reopen later. Ask a fresh question, and it shows under the new answer.

  • Does a lens count toward my usage? Yes, like a question. Save it for the answers that matter.

  • Can I use more than one lens? Yes. When the sharpened answer finishes, Try a lens shows under it again, without the lenses you already used. Each lens counts toward your usage like a question.
